Book Blogger Hop

I like to participate in the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Crazy-for-Books whenever I have a Friday that isn't maddeningly busy. The Blog Hop is a great way to meet fellow book bloggers and follow new blogs that you may find interesting.

This weeks question is: “In honor of Banned Books Week, what is your favorite “banned or frequently challenged book”?”

Two of the books on the banned books list that I love are Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. I cannot even begin to understand what anyone could have found objectionable about these books but then I cannot banning books anyway.

Book Blogger Hop

I'm doing the Book Blogger Hop after quite a while this weekend. Somehow Fridays always seem to be extra busy and I never manage to get enough laptop time. For those of you who don't already know, Book Blogger Hop is a weekly event hosted by http://crazy-for-books.com/ and is a great way to 'meet' fellow book bloggers.

This week's question is:

“What’s the LONGEST book you’ve ever read?”
(Note: I’m putting one caveat on this question. You aren’t allowed to say the Bible, Torah, Qur’an, or other religious/spiritual text.)

I think it would be a tie between Les Miserables by Victor Hugo and The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky. I feel like I spent half my life reading just these two books and carting them around gave my arms a proper workout :)

Book Blogger Hop and Question of the Week

The book blogger hop is a weekly event usually hosted by Crazy-For-Books, but this weekend it’s being hosted by Lori’s Reading Corner. This is such a great way to meet like minded bloggers and revel in our mutual love of books.

This week’s question is:

“Who is the one author that you are dying to meet?”

It seems like all the authors I would die to meet are already dead. This is the unfortunate result of having my head buried in the classics for too long. Fortunately, I can still dream of meeting Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I remember reading One Hundred Years of Solitude and Love in The Time of Cholera back to back, over a weekend many years ago and it was something of a revelation.

I would also love to meet Jhumpa Lahiri because I love the simplicity of her prose and the gentleness of her characters.

Book Blogger Hop and Question of the Week

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly book party hosted by Crazy-For-Books.com. Its a great way to find new blogs and connect with other book bloggers and book lovers. It features a question every week to break the ice and get everyone talking.

This week's question is from Christina who blogs at The Paperback Princess. She asks:
"If you find a book you love, do you hunt down other books by the same author?"

My answer: Absolutely. Infact, I tend to go on a reading spree of all the books by the author, hunting them down rather obsessively. I think the last time this happened was when I stumbled upon Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. For the next month or so, hubby and I went through an armful of Murakami's books until we both started talking to sheep and saw fish dropping from the skies. Kidding aside, Its great to find an author whose writing connects with you and then discovering all his/her other work. Sometimes the subsequent works may prove disappointing but more often than not, its the start of a brand new love story between me and the author.
